Hi I am getting a hutch with a run underneath it. It does not have a bottom just open. Can I place this straight onto concrete patio slabs without the need for bedding etc as this would probably be very messy? I would put tunnels n cosies in it, n maybe a few floor tiles in the summer to keep the piggies cool etc. Please help as I dont know what to do. Many thanks ::)

I'm presuming the hutch part has an enclosed bed area? If so, the bottom part is fine on the concrete.

It's good for their claws to be directly on concrete cos it'll keep them a bit trimmer. I think I'd be a bit careful when (!?) it's damp/very cold asI htink piggies are inclined to get chills etc because of their tums being in contact with the ground so much.

Hi yes its got the usual enclosed bed area n open area next to it. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. New to piggies n worry all the time that I might do something wrong. Dont know what i would do without the forum.

:) I think we've all felt like that.

Just make sure they have a nice cosy bed area they can escape to.

Yeah that's fine. You can just sweep up the concrete, and every now and again move the hutch to give the concrete a good clean. I have hutches like that too.

If you put them somewhere quite sheltered, like against a wall where it isn't too windy, then it stays quite dry underneath the hutch and they don't seem to mind the concrete at all. I put all their food and hay and water downstairs, so upstairs can just be for sleeping and relaxing.

Do you use a rain cover etc on the open run area at all in the summer and/or winter? Sorry for all the questions.

I'm going to get hutch covers in the winter, but it was raining loads today but under the hutches is still dry. :)
