Hi all,

I thought my boys were getting on great but now Fred seems determined that this wee guy shall have nothing and is taking over the full cage.

After about 2 hours of being in there cage, Fred then decided he was moving the wee guy from the tunnel he was hiding in, then both the houses. He keeps chattering his teeth at the baby is this normal?

I feel sorry for the baby all he does is squeak, do you think I will have a full fight on the go? What should I do! I'm really worried they will fight when I'm not there!

Help 8...

Fred is just throwing his weight around. Mervin signals his submission with his loud squeaking.

It can go on for some time, but I don't think there will be fights. Some piggies are big bullies at the beginning, as guinea pigs need to spell everything out. Please let them get on - once Fred has made sure that he has total dominance, he will hopefuly settle down and bond with Mervin.

Joanne good luck honey - wish I knew more about boars.

Do leave it until there is a scuffle, have a towel handy to throw over them. If you think they are going to fight make a loud noise to freak them out and seperate them without you having to intefere.

Did you do it on neutral ground? Are they now on neutral ground?

Also if you are very very worried and you can't stay awake any longer then seperate them for tonight but make sure you start again first thing in the morning on neutral ground and stick with it for the whole day.

HUGS to you it sounds really scary.

I have now moved them to my mates seems crazy but it was so I had internet access thankfully she only lives across the road and we didn't need to disturb them to move... the minute I made a sudden movement it disturbs them!

In the bath and they were fine and for a few hours in the cage and all was well! Until now!

I agree with lisa, follow her advice. When i had 2 boars together they had the odd scuffle but if it gets really nasty and goes on i dont think they will change. Keep an eye on them and check for more info. good luck

What you are getting is pretty heavy dominance behaviour - your Fred is obviously quite a bully.

If you are too worried separate overnight, but make sure that you reintroduce on neutral ground and keep them on neutral ground for as long as possible tomorrow (bathroom or kitchen floor, so you can wipe up any messes - make sure there are no cracks the little one can get stuck in). If necessary, clean out and wipe down the whole cage and rearrange everything freshly when you put them back.

He's only a baby though so I don't want him being hurt, maybe I should let them scruff it out and just not interfere and see what happens I don't particually want to wait till blood is drawn!... think a c &c cage with a separation, if I wanna keep this piggy!

they were in the bath for 6 hours perfectly fine! It's really heart breaking I don't want to go though this again... I hate to say it but I think I'm just going to have to wait and see if blood is drawn!

If the teeth chattering gets loud and their heads raise up and one backs into a corner then clap your hands, whistle or anything distracting, but dont wait for blood to be drawn as this can get bad quickly. Keep us updated.

This is horrible... Hopefully they will go to sleep tonight, so perhaps I can get a sleep too, they were getting on so well at first! I think my Fred is a nasty piggie to other piggies obviously... He's a darling to me! even his behaviour is not normal how he is getting on in the cage!
