I am going to be introducing my 5 month old boar to a 6 week old piggy in a couple of weeks, and i know alot of you have done this before therefore advice on how to do this best would be great!

I have made up a c&c cage which they will be living in - its 4x2 two tier.

Would you suggest them living next to eachother first, or introduce them neutrally on the living room floor with toys, hideys?

help! i dont want them to start fighting you see! i hav eto go to work the next day after having them, therefore realy want them tot bond as dont want to come home to the middle of WW3.

If i were you I'd keep scruff in his original cage until the new boy arrives so he doesn't claim it in advance. On the floor with hidey holes and treats usually works, touchwood Scruff will be very happy to have a new friend and the young ones in my experience are more than happy to follow the big guy and befriend them. Good Luck

I have kept him in his nero 3, i am going to introduce them both at the same time to the new cage, i didnt want scruffy claiming ownership of it! lol

thanks for that, i think this is what i will do, just good to get others opinions! I'm so excited its crazzyy! :))

How exciting! Good advice there from Piggiesforever. I would also add:

Introduce in neutral territory, such as a bath with towels in the bottom, obviously free of water! Have a towel handy to put over them if they start fighting.

This is a great page: http://www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm you have to scroll down the page, but it gives tons of really helpful info. I would also add that space is the key with boars and two of everything - water bottles, hidey holes, toys, sticks, food bowls etc...

Good luck and keep us up to date with what happens! :)

When I introduced Dave to Ben, he went straight into the existing cage where Ben had been living. Unconventional, I know, and probably not recommended but as Ben was always going to be Boss pig it seemed logical to put Dave into Ben's existing environment and make him fit in rather than start off neutral.

Touch wood, things have worked out OK. They get on like a house on fire, have the odd blokey rant, but nothing more. Hopefully by Christmas, Dave will be out the other side of puberty and then I can relax some more!

I have done this a few times but I am always around to make sure all is ok for a few days. As said above re neutral territory etc...it will be pretty obvious if they click or not to be honest. Expect rumbling, walking around low to the ground and bum wriggling, some mounting possibly.

To be on the safe side, you could introduce them on a weekend so you are around a bit more? or if you are a bit worried, you could let them have floor time together at first and build it up from there :)
