*sorry realised I posted my other thread in wrong section *blonde moment...:{

I am considering a guinea shed, not sure whether to give them free range or extend their C&C cage. Here are some questions if anyone can answer...

1/ Would it be better to free range or extend their C&C cage? I was thinking if I kept C&C I may be able to offer a home to another set of boars who could also have C&C cage separate to Seth an Norm.

2/ is an oiled filled heater safe with the hay etc? and should I just leave it on all the time or just over night?

3/Could I have 2 more boars in the same room but housed separate?

4/ How would I insulate a shed?

5/ do you get any mouse /rat problems with them in a shed? with the food etc?

my hubby has said he can get me pwer and lighting to the shed no problem, but I am undecided, they are in a 5x2 CC cage with 2x2 hay loft at the moment, but I can't give them any more room indoors as theres is no more room! lol plus I can't have any more guineas indoors either for the same reason as I like good sized cages for them.

All advice much appreciated

The heater question I can answer as when I converted my shed it was one thing I purchased and wanted to get right.

An oil filled radiator is safe, however I bought a heater that is similar to an oil filled by more efficient. They call it an oil free and heats up instantly with no noise and no convection. I have to say though I managed to buy mine for £70 odd pounds from amazon being under the 'used' catagory and said to have a scratch on the radiator, but I havent found anything wrong.
I love my radiator because it has a digital tempreature setting, if the shed goes below 18 degrees it switches on. It can also be set so the heat comes out of the top and only one side which is how I have it set as it's sat close to the wall on the other side.
This is the model I bought.

This is my shed project thread http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=94862

I have a neutered boor and sow living in a C&C so the radiator has it's own place to stand well away from nibbling teeth.
The walls door and ceiling are insulated, which is shown on the thread, look at the last page for the end results too. The insulation makes a massive difference. It not only retains the heat in cold weather but in the hot weather it keeps it much cooler too.

big thank you! will look at the thread and the heater looks fab! :)

i use an oil filled heater in my shed and find it very good. it is not digital tho but has a dial to set the temp so will click on and off and keep the air more or less a constant temp. having a max/ min thermometer also helps to see how cool/ warm the shed has been over night etc.

i insulated my shed with kingspan, which is very easy to cut and use, then lined the walls with interior wood cladding and the ceiling with ply wood ... i did ned to get someone to come and do the ceiling for me tho!
