I just got a boar and his son today, been housed together previously as far as I'm aware. Four hours into them being in their hutch at my house I had to separate them due to fighting to the extent one of them has two bloody ears! Is the move responsible for stressing them or are they not compatible? Help!

It could be the stress but its a more likely to do with it being new territory as it will be all new with no scent they are probably trying to decide who is the dominate one again. If possible keep them seperate and then slowly introduce them again in floor time. If they have lived together befor they should agian. Good luck

If they have lived together previously, then they should be ok.

But guinea pigs seem to have very short memories ... sometimes they seem not to recognise their companion of several years even when they have been apart for a hour or so! rolleyes

Make sure that they are on neutral territory and after the stress of the move has died down ... just monitor what is going on. If it continues to be really bad, i.e. one boar attacking the other and hurting it, then you may have to re-think the housing situation.

Fingers crossed though that they will just settle down. Offer plenty of distractions such as tasty veg, grass and fruit and plenty of hay.

Keep us posted!
