Hello,

I'm hoping to make our new Guinea Pigs some toys, tunnels, bridges, platforms etc. I just wanted to find out what materials are best and more specifically if there are any materials that should be avoided. I notice that most guinea pig toys are made from willow. Is it ok to use other types of wood too?

Thanks

Agree with artcasper, cardboard boxes, toliet rolls cut lengthwise. Put hay in them or just leave them cut & they can have a good chew. Brown paper bags off of Amazon, they love them. Snuggles mine love to get in & roll around. Really anything they can chew, log rolls they can run over them & chew them. But get wooden toys from a pet shop & you know they are safe. Just thought in the range they have wooden platforms, just a wood roof & 4 sturdy legs only £5 & my pigs love it. Put something by it as a step & they are away.

Thanks everyone, yes I will certainly use cardboard - I always save that as it's often handy so I've got plenty stashed away. I was also thinking of using some planks I have in the garden - just untreated pine I think, as ramps.

The current setup is an indoor cage with some fleece on the base, a fleecy thing that looks like a large slipper for hiding/sleeping in and a seagrass weaved house full of hay for hiding and sleeping - all from pet shop - so they both have separate space if needed. We also have a food bowl and water bowl (and bottle, but it was leaking)

The plan is to make a ramp onto a raised area for extra playing space, and a ramp out to an outer enclosure for playtime - that's where the wood would come in. I'd love to know your thoughts.

Thanks
