I had a transaction get declined on...Saturday, I think. I don't remember. I was pretty sure it declined because I didn't put the right details in but I was keeping an eye on the account anyway to be sure, right? So I checked this morning, looked normal. Checked this afternoon, £20's gone. Uh oh. So I ring the bank. I say I need to know just what the pending transactions were since Friday because I couldn't remember when the decline happened, and then I couldn't remember my sort code, couldn't remember the two digits they ask for for the pin (it's not the card PIN, this is for telephone banking only and it's a four digit number, it's one of their regular questions), then as we're going through the pending she says yes, it was declined because I put in the wrong expiry date. Sounds about right. But she also told me I'd spent money on taxis on Friday - which I knew - but remember I said I had £20 missing? Guess what eejit got taxis this morning?

Everything's normal. Everything's as it should be. Except for my brain, apparently, which never switched itself to Awake this morning.

Well that's still preferential to having money actually going missing

It gave the lady on the phone a good laugh, too. There's lots of little small pending payments that I knew about, but it's harder to do the maths when it's not right in front of me. As soon as she said the name of the taxi company for Friday it was like 💡. I was fairly certain the declined payment was 100% on the level, but live and learn. Maybe not being able to buy things in the wee hours of the morning isn't such a bad thing after all 🙃

Oh I’m regularly shocked to find there’s transactions on my account…. Only to find it’s really me who’s been doing the spending. Memory like a seive!

I'm so glad it's not just me, lol. It'd be easier if I could see the pending transactions, would save me a few more embarrassing phonecalls at any rate.
