Hi

I have 2 boars, and they live together in a 5ft x 5ft C&C cage. I want to give them even more space by adding a level measuring 5ft x 2ft on top of half of the cage. I have a few questions:

1. Will the base C&C cage be strong enough to hold a large level of correx, litter, hay etc?

2. In their previous home, they did have a ramp in their cage and they did use it. So hopefully, they'll use this one, but what's the best way of making a ramp? Should I use vetbed on the ramp for grip? How do I attach it?

3. What size should the hole be in the correx for the ramp? Can I build some sides around the hole to hold litter but not catch the guinea-pigs feet?

4. I've seen plastic on top of the correx on some members' setups to prevent chewing. Where can I get those? At the moment, I'm using fleece to prevent them chewing correx, but it looks unsightly.

Thanks. :)

I think the plastic is from a stationary shop.It is the plastic they use to keep pages together. What an amazing space for your piggies, thought mine were spoilt. You could build sort of a wooden table with sides that sits over the c&c cage. This would be a lot sturdier .If you put sides on you could seal it all or put cortex in.

The plastic is that - search for slide binders on ebay. They are very cheap. You might find this thread useful to work out how many you will need.

I haven't built our c&c cage yet as the stuff arrived just as we went away so will leave the ramp qus to others with experience but in terms of supporting a top level I've noticed most do seem to use some sort of support such as wood bars or "purpose built" supports like this one on ebay (if this link doesn't work, search for c&c cages loft support on ebay. There is a seller called also-grendle who sells them.)

Tagging @maxdawn who may be able to help you with your questions too.

I don't have a support in my loft, but it's only a 2x5 CC with a 5x5 you will most def want some support I would think. Anything over 2 across I think would need something.
For my ramp I bent a grid and put correx on it and topped that with fleece stuck down with double sided tape type stuff (thicker than tape) ?
Can't wait to see it.
