So I want to add an upstairs to the boys cage. It's a store bought ferplast something or other. Opens at the top and a small opening on the side. I want to give the boys more room and was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what material to use and how to add it. When I was young my dad and I made a loft for my Guinea Pig cage by using wood and attaching a ramp and putting the entire thing in using metal rods and zip ties. As I don't have access to power tools anymore I am not sure how to do this. Any advice would be appreciated!

Bump! As I'm looking at doing this as well!

I added a loft to my 140 as I felt it was not at all big enough for my 2 boars, I used two overlapped C&C grids and tied it all together with tie wraps (cable ties) and then made a correx tray for it and it easily holds their weight ... one is 1.5kg and the other 1.0kg!

In my old cage which was a ferplast 100 at the time ... i used a paper sorting tray like just a single one that we used to have on the desk, cable tied it in and by putting it on the lowest set of bars the piggies where able to jump up so save having to put any ramps up, i used dishcloths to cover the mesh and the odd bit of fleece depending on what was available when i was cleaning. I used toilet roll tubes to go over the metal sides as the piggies chewed them and i was worried about the paint, it was just a case of cutting a slit down the side of the roll and putting it on (:

My cage is 59 cm wide, what would work best for that?

the same thing would probably work with a paper sorter tray, i think my cage was about that wide roughly and it didn't span the whole width of the cage (:
