I have been thinking of how to add a second layer for a few weeks and realised that I still had puppy pen panels rolleyes and a spare correx panel. Just need a ramp :))

But - here is the but, I realised I dont want them to go up the part infront, I want to put it on the larger side but the panel is in the way. I need to find something that is 12" x 12" to replace the panel inside the pen and be the supporting section, possibly two (thinking c&c grids) to make it a corner unit, but then probably need it to be less wide but as tall.

I also need something to make a ramp with, although I made the one for their hutch so a bid of wood and nails is probably not a problem.

What has happened is they have all moved ship from the bed area and sleep under the extension, once the ramp is in I am sure they will sleep under that too, for the moment as realisticly only two beds fit in the underneath I have put the two stools ontop two beds so they dont feel left out :)) my pigs dont do sharing.

Any suggestions?

BTW I loved constructing this new part for them :)) and have already started to think of how I can add a section to their hutch outside - a spring project for them.

just thought - ramp, what about a drain ?/ if I can find a large one and obviously carpet or vet bed the floor, but it has sides and I can hose it/shower it down when I clean them out, plus is light weight and I can drill holes in the top to attach it to the puppy panels. I could make a cotton cover to fit over the whole thing if need be.

Its that or a wood one with banister as the other side will be against the sides.

Not sure exactly what you mean about the upper level but if the panel is in the way could a section of it be cut out to allow the ramp to be put on there ? I had to cut out a section on one of my c&c grids and was surprised how easy it was to saw through it (just took a little time).

I think a drain pipe would work fine as long as it had good grip on it - you get rectangular ones I think which may work better than round ones.... wood with a side would also work fine.

see why did I not think of that :red it took me 20 mins to come up with the panels as bits in the first place rolleyes I was looking round for something sturdy but easy to tie and I spotted the spare panels sat there and thought "ooo I wonder if I can use two as a platform and support" tried it out, it fitted perfectly then another 20 mins looking around for something to cover the bars with for a floor thinking I would have to get more wood next payday and then right by my leg was the spare correx sheet which surprsingly fitted perfectly.

Sometimes you can be so thick when the answer is right infront of your face :))

Or I can swap the door panel out on the far right and put a solid panel, the door would make a perfect gap with no sharp edges. I am so glad I posted this as I really wouldnt have thought of it (even if its obvious)

Just need to make the ramp - that will be payday.

lol.... I think you've done really well making it all from things you already had and swapping that panel with one with a door sounds perfect - well done !

I remember the scary day I made my c&c cage ..... it took alllll day and had to be finished that day to get the piggies in ..... but gave them sooooo much more room :)) The things we do for these piggles :))

when I first built it back in sept it took me all day, had the guys in their run on a nice day (after some hurricane winds - remember them) and thought enough was enough as the poor loves spent two weeks under tarp so wanted them inside asap. I did it all myself while the OH was at work, including some really heavy lifting of furniture stored in the way (OH told me off for that :red ) and brought them in before dark well chuffed with my handy work.

Then I panicked as they were settling in as they had loads of space but chose to hide in two places, they stank the house out for 2 weeks (because they were weeing in two spots only) which was a good job I could leave the door open and air the house. But after a little while they got used to it and I love having them inside with us, they only whiff when its cleaning out day which is the same as in their hutch.

But now they are settled I wanted to give them a bit more of a home so added the second level, not sure if I should add a bit more or not, but then cleaning out will be difficult with too much in the pen, its actually going to be the feeding station for them, all the veg and dry food which will leave more space down stairs for them to run about and popcorn.
