Hello i am Kaece, this is my first time having guinea pigs so I'm not sure why my guinea is acting this way.
First i should say hes 1yr and some months and has been very active before
he is eating , drinking , peeing (alot) and pooping normally. but for some reason he is not active. ive had him for a year so hes comfortable with me, he just sits in a hunched position and makes very little noise when i call his name, and only moves around if i have a treat or his fav veg but even then its barley movement. He takes anti inflammatory medicine if thats anything (vet told me to) and he eats critical care sometimes, hes been on it for some weeks but he doesn't eat it often , is he depressed ? I'm getting another guinea pig soon, I'm not sure if hes in pain or not, and his breathing is fine.

Hi and welcome

I am very sorry for your concerns.

Did your vet find anything? Hunching and not moving around much means that there is a massive pain issue. If there has not been any improvement in weeks, then please have him seen and checked urther. Thing are not going to get better on their own, unfortunately and companionship is not the issue.
Signs of Pain in Guinea Pigs

What level of painkiller (meloxicam based) is your piggy? Cat or dog (0.5 mg or 1.5 mg suspension) and what is the dosage?

How much syringe feed do give in a day? Are you monitoring the weight/food intake daily on your kitchen scales?

Hi thank you ! And he takes 0.5mg of inflammatory medicine daily and i syringe feed him 25mg a day (vet told me to) and the vet said he was in good condition when i went. hes been doing this for around 3 days but today hes been a bit more active, (not hiding) and i do monitor his weight (weekly) but not food intake

Is that 0.5 ml daily of your painkiller/anti-inflammatory? Milli-litre (ml) gives you the volume of the dosage whereas milli-grams (mg) refers to how much of the active ingredient is in the medication for each milli-litre of it. It should usually say on the label.

Pain is an appetite suppressant, so if your piggy is suddenly not moving around as much and looking hunched up etc., then that is a red alarm that he also is not eating as much as he should. Keep in mind that over three quarters of what a piggy eats in a day is hay. So seeing him nibbling on his veg is in the way of an afternoon snack but you cannot say how much he has had for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Poo output is generally 1-2 days behind of intake so your kitchen scales are the best way of keeping an eye on events as they happen.
