Hi peeps,
Quick but important question, I got confused (and I'm quite stupid sometimes, lets face it) and ended up giving my guinea pig her baytril and loxicom dose 12 hours apart instead of 24, its a high does to try and deal with a respiratory infection, 1ml of 2.5% bayril and 0.24mls 0.5mg/ml loxicom.
I'm giving her heaps of medication to try and resolve this issue along with separate issues and medications for my other animals, so I just, brain derped.

Will she be ok with this as it was still more than 12 hours apart or is it vet time? Panicking somewhat but she's bumbling around as normal and doesn't seem to care yet, not sure how long it would take to show if it did mess up big time.

Ah should have given her weight, she's about 1240 grams. She was 1300 but has lost some weight with her respiratory issue it could be heart related we're not sure yet, they said her heart sounded fine but she was struggling to shift the fluid so she's on frusol as well. (the frusol is what confused me, its twice a day, the others are not :( )

Hi!

Please don't panic.

I would recommend that you wait 24 hours until the next dose of baytril but it is not in the dangerous range of overdosing.

The loxicom is on the low side for both cat or three times stronger dog metacam (you haven't specified), so you can continue safely after 12 hours.

I would recommend that you paste a label with the split dosages over the top of bottles to prevent this from happening again. It is a very common problem when you are splitting dosages to give twice a day instead of once.

The Loxicom dose is incredibly low. It is the cat version that you have been prescribed, and for a piggy of that weight, we would be giving around 0.4 ml of dog Loxicom, which equates to 1.2ml of Cat Loxicom. This dose would be given twice daily.

Thank you for the reassurance everyone, I've been checking on her regularly, I think she's fed up with me peeking in every other moment :D I'll leave her be for a while and I'll shimmy my baytril times around so its the correct 24 hours again from the new time i gave it to her.

I'll keep that in mind with the Loxicom dosage if it looks like she needs more, I think she is feeling much better now though he breathing has eased up completely since we gave her the frusol and she looks much more comfortable. I'm very glad my mishap isn't likely to cause issues though and I will 100% be adding a lid sticker to remind myself which ones are once per day and which are twice.
