Also, my other pig, Maui, just got home from the vets. They think she has an abscessed molar. Still keep her in your prayers! Also, if anyone has info about this, please let me know!
So cute.
Sorry about Maui.
I’ll tag our dental expert for you but you may want to create a thread for Maui in the Health & Illness section which is specifically monitored by the forum’s health experts and others with experience of dental needs and abscesses can help and support you. @furryfriends (TEAS)
More details about when I had a piggie go through this. Nutmeg was about 3 and had already had several dental trims of her molars under anesthesia.
Right around when she was getting checked to see if she was due to have it done again, we noticed a lump along her jaw. Tried a week of antibiotics and it didn't resolve, so she had it surgically drained and stitched.
Apparently the abscess originated in one of her smallest molars toward the front. It had a "copious" amount of food and pus packed in to where the tooth had been. The tooth was actually gone at that point.
Anyway, she had no stitches on the outside, just the dark blue stuff and it healed nicely. It was a rough few days making sure she was eating but she pulled through!
Scooter pie, you should post a picture of your piggies on what the pig up to! It would be so cute! You know, I just realized that Maui, Sugar, and Nutmeg are all 3 years old. Maybe the 3s have something in common....
