Hey, I’m just looking for some advice before my boys go back to the vet next week. My more dominant boy was very lethargic, breathing heavy and had bald patches of fur. I was terrified he had mites so took him to the vet. Vet said it’s not mites but an unknown parasite (awaiting tests). He has treated both boys for this.
He drained an abscess on my dominant boars side, I noticed it but it was going down in size so wasn’t overly worried. I’ve to clean it with salt/cooled boiled water and antibiotics twice per day.
All is going well but my dominant boar has started squeaking like crazy through the night and when I go in to check, he’s chasing his brother. He used to do this a lot but stopped lately.
My question is, is it a concern as in he could be in pain and chasing him away. Or is he just back to his old self now that he might be feeling a bit better? Neither have ever had a bad fight, just lots of rumble strutting etc. They have lived happily together in a 6ft x 4ft C&C cage for 4 years nearly. Any help would be appreciated ☺️

Did the vet not give painkillers when the abscess was drained? If he isnt on painkillers then pain/discomfort would be the first thing I'd consider and address.
When was it drained?
Has his weight been stable?
What was the outcome of the heavy breathing?
You say he treated both boys for an unknown parasite - what were they treated with?

Are you sure its the dominant squeaking and not his brother? Might the brother be submission squealing?
Does it only happen at night?

No he didn’t mention pain killers, my sister took them both as I was working. I’ll ring them today and ask about pain relief. He lets me clean it ok and I can hold him.
It was drained on Wednesday, the vet done it when he was awake, is this normal? Apparently popped it then used scissors. Apparently he was very distressed, in a way I’m glad I didn’t see that.
He said breathing could be from discomfort, it has got better now and he has much more energy again.
He’s quite a large pig and his weight hasn’t ever fluctuated thankfully.
I asked if it was ivermectin but my sister couldn’t say, I’m taking them back next Wednesday myself so will be able to ask what they’ve had.
When I go into the room it’s always the dominant one squeaking, he squeaks when he walks as well. His brother is very quiet and very rarely makes a noise, he’ll be the first to run up for his treats and even then he’s quiet.
I feel he looks better in himself but absolutely don’t want to risk having him in pain. I only notice the noises at night as I’m out at work during the day. Will be home at the weekend and will have a better idea. Thank you ☺️
