Hi,
I have two female guinea pigs aged 2 and a half living in a 2x5 c and c cage. Recently we went on holiday for two weeks and the pigs go to boarding where they stay in a much smaller outdoor hutch but get fed as normal. after coming back they have been wheeking loads at random intervals, and ( they seem louder and do it for longer) wheras they would normally only wheek when the fridge opens. their poops are much more dry for the first day or so but that always happens however they have drank a lot more water than usual which concerned me slightly. Just wondering whether anyone has any experience in this and whether its something to be concerned about or not.
thanks

I wouldn’t be particularly nervous. Perhaps they got fed more often, or the boarder fed them whenever they wheeked so they’ll do it as often as possible. One thing about piggies is they love to try their luck, so stick to your guns and hopefully they will calm down when they realise they can’t just get their way by being loud.

As for the water, the amount a guinea pig drinks in a day can vary significantly. If their poops were dry then perhaps they weren’t getting enough water for whatever reason and felt the need to rehydrate themselves, or maybe they just felt extra thirsty. I’ve found the way I can calm my anxieties with hydration is to really only worry if my pig ISNT drinking water, rather than to try and gage how much they have drunk.
