About 4 weeks ago I separated Abigail and Rosie they are both now in separate 120 cages pushed together lengthways. Rosie was barbering Abi to the skin and one morning there was a graze on Abi's skin and a small amount of blood. Everything went well never seen Abi so relaxed she was popcorning around her cage sleeping out, eating, Rosie was bar biting a little at first but has now settled. About a week ago we were cleaning out Abigail and the glass water bottle got knocked over and Abi ran into the corner and has stayed in her hidey ever since i have put a cover over half her cage , tried the piggy whispering tips nothing seems to be working, she is not eating during the night and the only time she will eat is if I put food in front of her hidey, that she then drags in. Not sure what to do, any advice welcome. Thank you

I’m not sure on putting them back together since she seemed so relaxed once she was alone...The bottle must have scared her out of her wits poor girl, so she may just be still scared to come out. Perhaps give her a few days and see how she fares. You could put the food further away slowly and perhaps cover the entire cage for her, leaving a gap where she can still chat to Rose.

I’ll tag @VickiA @Wiebke @PigglePuggle

Could you move Abi's shelter right next to Rosie's?

You can try a re-intro on neutral ground but you have to see how Abi is coping with it. Sadly it is not the time to take Abi dating for submissive and laid back neutered boar... :(

Thank you Wiebke, their hideys are next to each other in their cages. I would love a old submissive boar for Abigail but like you say its impossible at the moment she is definitely happier away from Rosie, bless her she was nearly bald from the waist down where Rose was barbering her, then when I saw some blood on her it was time to say enough, at that time I was giving lots of floor time and giving lots of activities but nothing worked. Abigail was absolutely fine until I knocked the bottle over about a week ago. Just hope she gets a bit more confident again soon.

Thank you @Siikibam, I feel awful that I scared her, Abi is usual so confident in the cage. I will definitely try moving the food a little further each day to see if I can slowly coax her out again. Thank you

Please don’t feel awful. It wasn’t intentional and you probably didn’t think she’d react like that. I feel bad for coughing and hearing them run for their lives 😬

Can I ask why you think Rosie was barbering her so severely? @Wiebke do you know what causes that kind of behaviour? Just curious.

Not sure, when I first got them from the rescue centre Abigail was the dominate piggy and Rosie was much younger and smaller, Abigail has some health issue which the vet is keeping an eye on and I think now Rosie has got as big as Abi she wanted to take the boss position. I don't think Abi and Rosie were really bonded as they came from a large group of rescue piggies.
