Junior Guinea Pig
Hello! I haven't been on here as much as I used to, I hope everyone is doing well. I got sick right before New Years Eve and have just recently recovered. It wasn't Covid, but I was feeling pretty horrible for a while and am happy to be feeling better.
I recently noticed that when my Hexi gets super excited (popcorning a lot and running around during pellet time for example) , she will occasionally start to pulsate in the abdomen area. It looks a lot like hiccups, which she has had a few times before (she's a fast eater and chokes on her veggies a lot, hiccups aren't surprising), but I am not quite sure it's the same because with hiccups there is more of a heaving motion and the heaving isn't as present. The weird thing is that I have only seen it happen twice, both times while she was super excited. I would usually think hiccups, and maybe it is, but I am worried that it could be her heart or lungs working harder when she gets excited.
She is a really happy and seemingly healthy pig otherwise. She eats a lot, drinks, and is extremely active. She is also gaining weight every week still as she is about 9 months old. I don't notice any signs of sneezing or any other respitory issue. She is still the most energetic pig I've ever met. Husband agrees that she does not seem sick at all. She had a lot of problems when she was a baby however and I am aways worried it left long lasting issues.
I have a video of what I believe to be hiccups, but the pulsating abdomen looks very similar so I figured I would include it.
Can guinea pigs just get a bit too excited and give themselves hiccups? Can they get too excited and make their heart pump a bit too fast or breathe heavier? Hexi's face is a bit more flat than the average piggy so I could imagine she may have to work harder to breathe when she's running around everywhere. If I see it happening more, I am definitely going to take her to the vet, but I don't know if I'm over thinking it right now. Advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Here is the video, my phone isn't letting me post it here for some reason so here is the YouTube link:
