I have just rescued two neglected piggys and am not sure how to move forward with them.
I brought them home yesterday and have housed them in a large hutch in the garden as I have no more space indoors and am awaiting the delivery of a shed.
Originally they were kept in a greenhouse!
They are looking in a little bit of a poor state and I will take them for a check up next week but all in all they look a lot better than I had anticipated. I think the bald patch on their backs is due to barbering but will also get that confirmed.
The problem I am having is knowing how to make them feel safe. They have hidden in their pigloo since I brought them home and not come out at all. Its a lovely warm sunny day and they have a large clean hutch with food, hay and lettuce, fresh water waiting for them and they are still hiding.
Will they come out eventually or do I need to gently persuade them?
They havent made a single sound since they came home either, is this because they are scared?
They are alive as I regularly check on them and can just about see a little nose peep out of the pigloo when I open the roof.
Not sure what to do for the best. Help would be appreciated.
