Just wondered how you guys house your larger groups... I know there's the C&C option which is fab - but I have sneaky (well, not especially sneaky - lazy is a better description, but I'm allowing for the worst here! ;) ) cats to consider so I'd like something that's covered. I've seen a lovely, whopping 6x2 hutch on 3 levels but any piggies that come to live here will be indoors and I'm not too wowed by having a mini-shed in the house....

thoughts... genius suggestions...someone who can build me a piggie extension perhaps:p ?

Thanks xx

I have attached two rabbit 140s together using a piece of soil pipe through the 2 bases. My 4 love it and fly through the pipe like bullets.

My new 2 have a Rabbit 120 & a Rabbit 100 connected in the same way.

The cages end up being very long, but it works for us

Hello fellow welshie!

I use a C&C with a top on it as i have 3 sneaky cats!

I have 7 living together in a huge abode with a top that opens up giving full access to the top floor, then the sides open up for lower floors.

Hi Lisajazz - what do use as a top for your C&C? I really want to build one for my guys, but have the cat problem too...

I use C&C grids.

Hang on looking for a photo

I thought about connecting together cages because of the safety/cat issues but if I could cat-proof C&C that'd be the best option I think as it'd avoid the piggie space being all length and no height.. Not that hub is a*sey when it comes to cage space but I think he'd be more forgiving of more sq. feet if the footprint in the room was smaller by using upwards space aswell...

Lisajazz, do you have to unclip levels from one another to clean it all out? t's a gorgeous set-up though... I bet your piggies are x) with it!

Thanks for the input so far.

No. The top opens up as you see to do the top floor.

Then the other 2 floors have sides that lift up allowing you to get to the floors. It's not the most user friendly cage BUT it's so big and they love all the space they have.

It's extremely flexible too and we have changed it over and over many times to accomodate as we have added more guinea pigs to it.

interesting set up Lisa. In the long term I would love to bond my new two (sister with neutered brother) with my other 4 sows who are all living together. It would be impossible connecting all 4 cages as it would be like a train! So something like your set up would really be something else. Mind you I am not sure I have the confidence to do the bonding thing in such a big way. I do it with chooks all the time, and I did put the 4 sows together, but they were all over a 6 day period so not such an issue.

heehee Redfrock, now when I see posts talking about piggie trains I shall picture your bunch steaming their way around the place on their 4 interconnecting ca(ge)rriages!

Lisajazz... brilliant.. you have the perfect picture to answer every question! Genius! :)) It looks like such a cool set-up and I'd certainly love to give them oddles of space so I think that may be the way to go, especially as it can be changed about.

Diolch yn fawr iawn;)

Thanks! Someone asked for pics of the openings a while ago so I had a load already.

It can be scary! But I bet in the summer in a run you could do it easily!

Alternatively if you decided to do something similar you could give the 4 sows 2 floors and the pair 1 floor.

WOW Lisajazz, your C&C set up is amazing! That's the first full three storey one I have seen. Any chance you have any more photos of your set up that shows how you have the ramps set up? Its just that I am in the middle of planning a two storey C&C and am very interested to see how other people have got the ramps.

Also, it looks like you have something black on the sides, outside of the grids?

Thanks!

The black things on the outside are the ramps. We changed our cage to have external ramps when we took on the boy so they would have much more room.

I am cleaning out later so will take some photos of the new ramps to show you how they work.
