Dozy's round the cage poop is generally softer than Jets but not soft soft - Jets is hard to squish Dozy's will squish with some pressure. Dozy can be prone to soft (as in it gets squashed underfoot and is misshapen) poop if he gets too many veggies.

However I suspect that sometimes Dozy isn't eating some or all of the soft first poop. Does that happen?

This seems especially to be the case if he is out the cage. Today he had an hour on the grass, he was pooping as I picked him up - normal poops for him, he stays under the stick tunnel whilst out and eats grass and today all the poops under there were soft and squishy and I had to bath his feet when he came in as he was covered! Now back in the cage and they are ok again.

What is happening?

I've seen something in the last few days that showed pictures of guinea pig poos and explained what they were. I'll try to find it later on. Or if someone else has seen it please add it to this thread.

My boars have soft squishy poops sometimes depending on what theyve been eaten, its always more so when theyve had time out on the grass. As long as they dont have like a really bad tummy I dont think you need to worry. Just keep an eye on it and dont give too many veggies/grass when theyve got particularly wet poops.

Several reasons can account for this either separately or in combination.
1) Poos on the grass absorb water from the ground (and urine). Did it rain last night in your area? Was the grass or rather the ground slightly damp when you put them out?
2) I have noticed that some of my piggies when in the run tend to sit in one place and get their paws covered in poo
3) Dozy seems to be more sensitive to green things given his general softer poops and you are obviously aware of the need to restrict his veggies somewhat.
4) The fresh spring grass is currently very rich for piggies so they really shouldn't be outside eating it for more than 15-20 mins until/unless they've already built up a tolerance for it. If they are eating grass I would think twice about giving them green veggies that evening (maybe baby corn/pepper/celery instead or just hay/pellets)
5) I sometimes get rather enthusiastic about feeding grass/dandelions to my pigs (I have several "ares" in the village I can harvest it from and I have to plan carefully before the Council mow it!) - If my pigs get over-indulged then squishy poos can result (regardless of time of year)

I think the bottom line is that Dozy has a more sensitive gut to green things and care needs to be taken in the amount he eats each day.
