At the minute or should I say as of yesterday my boys were bedded on a fleece liner with thick newspaper underneath. Every 5 days I changed it and replaced with a clean fleece liner. However I'm fed up with the smell and having to keep picking hay off the fleece liner as they drag it out of there hay box. Also the amount of poos and having to Hoover there poo twice a day.
I've cleaned them out today as they stink after 4 days and so ive bedded them on Eco bale (its what I use for my ratties) with thick newspaper underneath and on top of the Eco bale a layer of hay.
They have a hay box so fresh hay daily. Do you think this would be ok?

Also has anyone tried bedmax shavings? I know normal shavings are bad for any small animal but these are kiln dried and screened thoroughly for dust. They do little max too which is the same but softer.
I don't like Fitch I've had that before.
Finacard is same as Eco bale but shredded and I hate megazorb.

Cheers
Amy n pigs x

I have used ecobale and finacard in terms of cardboard and prefer ecobale tbh.

Bedmax shavings are fine, whilst I may got shot for saying it there are some very knowledgeable reputatble people who use them for their rats and have for years with no ill effects. They are a very high quality low dust shaving and I have used them myself and IMHO they're fine for pigs :-) personally wouldnt put my rats on them I dont think though. Kiln dried dust extracted shavings are fine :-)

But in answer to your question of ecobale with a hay tray ... sure a lot of people use a similar set up :-) I also hated fleece for the same reasons.

Thank you bekki, my local pet shop sells the 20kg bales of bedmax and I am tempted. I have to get ecobale online and it costs more cuz of the postage costs.
Yeh I have always had my rats past and present on Eco bale or finacard, And yes I know a few on the rat forum that use bedmax for their rats with no issues some even use the snowflake and hunters ones.

my piggies are on fleece and dont smell. I have a shower curtain then puppy pads then fleece. They have litter trays and smaller bits of towel and fleece where they have the odd wee. Most of their wees are in the litter tray.I use finacard in my litter trays. Only have to sweep up poos once a day as a lot in litter trays and my cages are big.The smaller bits of fleece and towel get changed when wet, sometimes every day.The fleece gets shaken and then washed in a horse bag.I couldnt cope with bedding as one cage is 15 square foot and the other 20 square foot. When they were in smaller cages i had puppy pads then the liner but still got changed every three days

Ok so they've been on Eco bale, newspaper lining and hay scattered around plus there hay box.
Anyway wiggy has been making funny respy noises, similar to what my rats make if they get a resp infection.
Do you think it's because there used to being bedded down on fleece?
Do you think it could be too much hay about?
It's been 3 days being bedded down like this.
