My 8 month old boar nutmeg doesn't get on with my other bonded boar pair, so I need to get him a friend.

Should I get a boy or a girl to bond with him? (Obviously id get him neutered if it was a girl). I just really want them to get along. If I got a boy, I could get one this week, whereas a girl would probably be in may because I only want to do introductions when I'm off school and we'd have to wait for nutmeg to be completely sterile.

Thank you ❤️

Well I think you would be best contacting a rescue that does boar dating. That way they will bond your boar with a boar who he chooses and likes so you don’t have a problem with a failed bonding. If the bond where to fall foul at anytime after you could return the new boar (which they can rehome and rebound) and try again

If you where to neuter him you would have to keep the girl away from your boar pair as she might drive them to distraction with her lady scent. You can do this by always dealing with your boar pair first and keep their cage above the mixed pair.

Tomorrow I'm going to the rescue to pick up a boy for a trial, if they don't get along, I'll take him back and try another. Fingers crossed it works out 🤞

All the best!

Good that you have insisted on a dating. 6 months is the time when boars are at their all-time testosterone high and generally the most difficult to bond.

Boars (unlike sows) are pretty straight forward, so you should see fairly quickly whether things are heading in the right direction or whether one of the boars is over the top and the other will have none of it. you will always only know whether two piggies are compatible by allowing them to meet.

I was worried that he wouldn't be able to bond until he was a bit older and calmer, but the new piggy has followed him round everywhere and it's so lovely to watch 😊

Why not call him Juniper? The dried berries look black and are used for spicing casseroles, fish stock or fruit cakes and are best known for flavouring gin... and a bit more unusual when it comes to piggy names!

My Miaren is the Welsh version of Bramble because of her black head.

,Oooooh I like that, I think I'll need to get to know him for a few days before I can decide

I prefer to make a shortlist of favourites but make the ultimate decision only after arrival - unless I let a rescue choose from my shortlist of Welsh Tribe names.

I have just changed my mind re. name with my own newly adopted boy!
