My make guinea pig Fin passed away suddenly yesterday. I came home from school to find him looking very ill I did everything I could for him and wouldn’t be able to take him to the vet until the morning. He unfortunately didn’t make it and passed away. My dad was in the room with me and held Fin for his last breath because I couldn’t handle it. In the moment it seemed right to not let his cage mate Gus see him. I am now regretting it cuz I don’t know if Gus knows he has passed. He is dealing well and is behaving normal except for being a bit more skidish than normal. I just feel very bad for him because he didn’t get a good bye. There is nothing I can do now about that but I plan on getting him a friend which leads to my question. Where I live there are no shelters that have guinea pigs near by. The closet one is 3 hours away. The only other place to get guinea pigs is from chain stores which I don’t want to do. I got Fin and Gus from a small store that got a few pigs at a time from a breeder and unfortunately they went out of business. So my only real option is to get one from someone off of Craigslist or Facebook. So I was wondering if anyone had any good pet adoption sites for the U.S. and also what to look for when getting a pig from a “stranger”. If you have read this whole thing you are amazing and any help is appreciated!

lol I meant to type US not “you.S” :D

:wel: to the forum! I'm so sorry to hear your little boy Fin passed away. It's really hard to help when I don't live near you. What part of the country do you ive in? If you live in the city it's pretty easy to find guinea pigs for sale. Unfortunatly, you'd have to keep the pig is quarantine for a while if you get it from a stranger. I think a pet store would kind of be your best bet if you live in a rural area (Even though they're bad:evil:).

Thanks! I live in a rural area so the closet pet store is about an hour and a half away. I will keep an eye out for some ads and see if I can find an adoptable one near me. I appreciate your tips and will keep a pet store in mind as a last resort :)
