My guinea pig Sky, is around 4 years old. She has recently moved into a new cage that me and my dad made and has settled in fine. She eats her veggies and is, like always, very excited to have them. She doesn't eat a massive amount of pellets but does chew on them sometimes. She loves her hay and seems to be just like any other piggy; lazy and cuddly.

She has a small lump on her left side, just past the middle section, I guess around her hip. It is still covered with fur and not visible or obvious unless you touch it. The skin on it looks clean and so does the hair around it. I'm not sure how to describe the size, but I guess it's 'Pea shaped' if not a tad bigger.

There is nothing wrong in her behavior or looks, she doesn't obsessively groom or itch herself, and she doesn't mind me touching her lump. She does live on her own, and has done for the past 6 months since her cage mate, Josh, passed away. But she has seemed perfectly happy on her own.

I have felt a small lump before but it is still there, so does anyone have any idea why she has it, and is it something that needs to be checked out very urgently?

Thanks for your help!

Sharna

Hi!

Guinea pigs do get lumps and bumps as they age, some harmless and some not. Obviously we cant diagnose lumps over the internet, and it is best you see a piggy savvy vet at your next convenience. It isnt an emergency as she is fine in herself, but its best to have it checked out so any treatment that may be needed, can be started. The most common lumps in aging piggies are fatty lumps, cysts and warts. My 7 year old sow has all 3!

Hope your vet has some answers for you.

All the best x
