So earlier this year my partner and I came across an advertisement for two female piggies. The pictures were a little depressing, they didn't seem to have a lot of space, a typical pet store cage etc. The thing that stood out was that one of the piggies was believed to be pregnant.

There was a lot of back and forth with the sellers, the girls were about 11 months old and had previously been neglected/abandoned in a little tub with a male piggy. Unfortunately the person selling them who had rescued them, had not taken them to a vet to be checked for the pregnancy so it was not confirmed.

She was simply very large. Once the seller was sure she was not in labour, she allowed us to pick them up. We were aware that this could land us in vet fees and all that, but we really felt for these sweet girls and wanted to make sure they were okay, especially the large girlie who we named Ebony. (Her sister is Juno).

We got her to an exotics vet pretty quickly where they did an ultrasound and found very large ovarian cysts. (Juno also had a general check over and they were both relatively healthy, aside from a tiny bit of hair loss due probably to chewing). They decided it would greatly improve Ebony's quality of life if surgery was done and so she underwent that. She recovered beautifully and now all that's history. We're so blessed to have these beautiful girls, who have the most brilliant personalities. They live in a spacious c&c on fleece blankets with all the comfy hides and good foods they could ever wish for.

We hope to adopt more piggies eventually so I'm sure we'll be on the forum time to time. 😊

So lovely that you found Ebony and Juno - they’re living their best life with you ❤️❤️
