Blod has been back at the vets today... we were booked in to review her teeth and discuss her having dental surgery... then she started honky breathing again...!
And I heard a bit of gruntiness from Piggle too so we took her along for company and a check-up.
Anyway a different vet today and a good outcome :)
The vet (Polish lady I think) phoned: " The first thing I need to say is..."
Me: "yes...?" like super worried...
Vet: "These are not sick animals, they are very, very healthy animals! They are plump, very plump. And strong, and fast! I put them on the floor and could not catch them! Excellent body condition!"
Well, its always nice when the piggies get praise from the vet! And we certainly aren't short of healthy heft round here!
So no antibiotics, the vet thinks its just a nose thing and maybe the central heating is making the air a bit dry, but we have bisolvon decongestant powder (Blod will be pleased, there will be bisolvy-grapes) and instructions to steam them both by the shower and keep an eye on them for a week.
The vet we saw today thinks Blod's special inbred face shape is likely to just make her a regular honker, so best keep the antibiotics is reserve for when she seems ill or there is a rattly chest as well as a honky nose, which sounds sensible.
Same with the teeth:
"her face, her teeth... will never be perfect" said the vet, "but she is not ill, her lungs are clear, her mouth is not sore, there is good wear on the teeth, and she clearly eats well, very well!"
So no dental surgery and no baytril for little Blodwen honks- she just has a funny wonky honky face :)

I'm very pleased, my instincts said its not a serious URI and if we didnt think Blod had surgery coming up in the next couple of weeks I would have opted just for bisolvon and steaming anyway but we thought we were having a dental op this month... but no need for that yet! The uneven teethies have been stable since September when she last saw the vet, so its a dental review check in 3 months as long as she keeps eating, and Blod is very good at eating, especially the timothy hay that keeps her wonky teeth worn down :)

I love the thought of the vet trying to catch escapee piggies :lol!:. Well done ladies x

I had to stop a vet from trying to weigh a guinea pig on the floor scales once because I did not want to be spending an hour trying to corral an escapee. Just nope. I don't think non-pig owners understand just how fast the little sods can get.

I'm really chuffed for Blodwen though, she's come such a long way and to see her continuing to thrive is a great testament to your (and piggy daddy) hard work, @PigglePuggle

I think Blod taking naughty Piggle with her accounts for the running, usually Blod is a paralysed fear potato playing dead if she's on her own, but Piggle likes a good escape chase and Blod usually likes to keep her nose right on Piggle's bum so she knows where she is, those stumpy little Blod feet and wheezy little Blod nose can go surprisingly fast!
I did wonder why they were over an hour at the vets, seems they went in straight away but then there was a chase scene and then the receptionist who loves piggies and knows Blod quite well didnt want to give them back :)
