A few months ago i got 2 guinea pigs, giving them a forever home, to my suprise they had a pup only a few weeks having recieving them!
The pup is now part of the piggy family but i have had to put him with his father as he cannot be mixed with the female. Would it be best to get her another friend (female) for company as they are very sociable, or would this be too much stress and change for her ?

Any advice would be grateful!

Wow, what a surprise for you! I'm assuming the baby is that little guin in your avatar? How adorable! What's his name?

A friend would be lovely for your girl and I'm sure she'd be grateful for the company. If anything, it's probably more stressful for her to be on her own. If you have one near, you could contact a rescue to see if they have any single girls she could meet, so she could pick her own friend.

Best of luck, looking forward to seeing more pictures!

Hi! it would be better if lonely mummy had a female companion for herself. However, how you go best about it without ending up with more unplanned pregnancies and wil making sure that the two girls like each other depends very much on your location. We have got members from all over the world, so access to good rescues etc, differs vastly. You can help us a lot if you please added your country, state/province or UK county to your details, so we can work out with you what is the best (and safest) way forward for you. Click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. Thank you!

We decided to name him Bjorn, yes we thought shed prefer company but wasnt sure since shes had a busy few months.
I am unsure if there are any rescues nearby unfortunatly.
But it would be nice to rehome a pig that needs a forever home than buy a shop bought piggy.

Thank you, i will add those details now.

Thank you for adding your location. By far the best place for you to have a totally problem-free ride is to contact Milhaven Guinea Pig Rescue in Keighley, which is by far the best rescue in your county. There you can be absolutely sure that all their adoptable guinea pigs are healthy and guaranteed not pregnant. Jo offers dating at the rescue, so your little mummy will be able to choose a companion herself and you do not have to worry about a bonding not working out. It is well worth going the extra distance for absolute peace of mind!
I can recommend them most warmly, as I have visited them when I adopted my Pili Pala and my Papi from there and was very impressed. You will be in very safe and experienced hands.
/User-agent: * milhaven-rescue.com for their rehabilitation in and around the keighleysteeton yorkshire area, home for abandoned, mistreat, mistreated guinea pigs in need of a loving sanctuary - www.milhaven-rescue.com/User-agent: * or Milhaven Guinea Pig Rescue

Alternatively, I can also warmly recommend BARC rescue in Barnsley. They also offer dating for guinea pigs and run to a similarly high standard. My Bryn Oscar has come from there.
Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity or Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity

Sorry, we are a strictly rescue-friendly non-breeding forum as per our forum rules.

There are simply too many backyard/strictly for profit breeders around as anybody can call themselves a breeder (or rescue, at that). We sadly have to regularly deal with members who tell us "I know a good breeder " only to end up with ringworm, mites, missexing and/or pre-sale pregnancies... If you can avoid it, it is a lesson that you can spare yourself! The comparatively few really good and caring breeders usually don't sell to the wider public and are extremely picky as to where their guinea pigs go. :(

PS: Many people think that rescue piggies are dull and messed up for life, but that is not the case at all! The really traumatised/chronically ill ones will never be put up for adoption. I would also recommend not gp for looks, but character compatibility for a great friendship. Guinea pigs usually have rather firm ideas who they want to get on with, which is why dating is always worth it. By adopting from a good rescue, you will always have that rescue to fall back on throughout the whole life of their piggies. That is something that you won't get from a breeder!

Here are my Milhaven piggies:
