Newtownards WW2 bomb: Residents return after controlled explosion
There's a number of people unaware the Blitz got as far north as Northern Ireland, Belfast in particular was hit badly, because it was a producer of so much that supported the war effort - shipbuilding, munitions, manufacturing. Ards had been hit too with several fire officer fatalities on one particular night, they've got a plaque at the war memorial in remembrance for their sacrifice alongside the soldiers.
And then there's me, when my mum says "we made the news!" and I come back with, "aye, and the last time we did it was because of a bomb too. Except that one was bigger."
Apparently the leisure centre was opened up for affected residents to stay in but no dogs allowed really helpful. Not.
