I have a 75 gallon aquarium that doesn't hold water (no dangerous cracks, etc). I was thinking about cleaning it real well and putting some guinea pigs in it. How many could I put in it? I know glass walls of aquariums aren't as good for breathing, but this thing is huge and I wouldn't have a lid on it (in case anyone questioned). Thanks.

The tank dimensions are 48.25" x 18.25" x 21" (LxWxH).

Aquariums, no matter how big, are completely unsuitable for guinea pigs. Firstly, guinea pigs need interaction - to be able to see and smell through their cages. Glass tanks prevent this. Secondly, they become moist and humid, leading to dangerous respiratory problems and increased risk of fungal infections. If you want guinea pigs, why not sell your aquarium and buy a proper cage?

Darn. The main thing is it won't be easy to get rid of and I figured it would work (but wanted to make sure). Oh well, cage it is then.

Nice try, but no cigar! I hope you find the cage of your dreams on ebay so that it's all worthwhile.

I do think some people keep mice in aquariums, though, so perhaps a local animal rescue might still be interested in it. Could you give it away on freecycle to a snake owner?

An animal rescue isn't a bad idea. I planned on adopting anyways so I could bring it with me when I go...

They are perfect for gerbils and they like to burrow!
