6ft hutch

Yes it’s ok for three sows or two sows and a neutered boar.

Is it one floor or more? If it's just one floor, what is the width? (I'm assuming 6ft is the length)
If it's more than one floor, weather it is suitable for 3 piggies is dependent on the dimensions of the floors. Lets say that a spacious floor area in your hutch is divided into 2 stories. Even though the floor area is technically enough for what they need, it still isn't because it is divided into two floors. So the piggies still don't have enough space wherever they are.

You are absolutely right, double storey doesn’t double the space but with hutches they are measured, described and sold based on their single floor space length irrespective of how many floors they’ve got. Decent commercial hutches are always 60cm.

Therefore, a commercially sold 6ft hutch is always the right size for 2-3 pigs - it doesn’t matter whether it has one or two floors but is still the correct hutch. (Two boars or three sows). This is why I was able to answer yes to the question of whether a 6ft hutch is big enough.

A 6ft single covers 12 square feet.
A 6ft double still only covers 12 square feet, not 24 feet ie it’s not 12 sq ft on each layer. A 6ft double is still suitable for 2-3 pigs. What a 6ft double doesn’t do is make it suitable for 4-6 pigs.

As per your example of each floor not being enough, yes you are right but somebody would have to buy a hutch which would be sold and described as a 3ft double storey hutch and try to say the two layers double it to 6ft.
This would be very wrong.
