5 year old piggy with funny spot on hip area - cyst?

Hello,

We have just noticed our 5yo female has something weird on her hip area. Will attach photo and I think it should be good quality for zooming in.

It's circular, slightly raised and feels quite hard to the touch. It seems to go a little way into the body but the skin still moves to and fro without it seeming attached to anything more deep rooted.

I have seen her scratching her hind quarters a few times recently but can't remember if it was this area.

Hopefully, someone has seen this kind of thing before?

We lost her friend during lockdown and we're about to purchase two newbies so would want to delay that if it looked like anything contagious.

I’m not sure what it could be. Your best bet is to get her to a vet.

Regarding her companions, where will you be getting them from? I would recommend you go to a rescue where she can choose her own friend. Trips are also another group that can be tricky - there could be one who ends up being the ‘third wheel’. Just something for you to think about.

I agree with the above advise. The lump could be anything from a harmless cyst to something more sinister but only a vet can diagnose and treat

Thank you for the replies. The vet took a look and isn't too concerned as there is not any redness, swelling etc and the piggy is not worried by it. Also it hasn't changed at all in appearance since I took the picture. She said the skin looked a bit dry so she wasn't convinced she'd be able to get any fluid out anyway. We've decided to maintain a "keeping an eye on it" stance. I'm off on holiday tomorrow but my other half will be checking it while I'm gone. I can remind him from afar.... Hahaha... Hopefully in the long run this thing will just drop off or something.
