My 5 year old boy just recently started to have a strange smell and it is VERY strong. Not to offend anyone but it reminds me of the smell of old people or their houses. Maybe like a musty smell. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

He was just recently at the vet for weight loss but no problems were found. He was put on a course of antibiotics just in case but I didn't any notice any changes after he finished them. It's not his poop or his pee. It's almost like it's his mouth area or possibly just his scent in general now. He's otherwise healthy (not impacted).Any sudden change in your piggy whether it is behaviour, eating or in this case smell would lead me to investigate further. Is his weight stable? Is he clean and dry or weeing and laying in his own wee? Is it is wee that smells or is it his poop that smells? If in any doubt I would take him to a vet for a check up.

I think this is the guide Wiebke meant to link in her above post. I hope your boy is okay, and smells better soon!
Hi!
Please check your boy's bits and see a vet if necessary.
Have a look at this guide here, which details what you should check for regularly and what problems a boar can suffer from most commonly. If in any doubt, please see a vet.

Keep an eye out for stale smelling urine (which may be what reminds you of old people's smell); this is usually a sign of a infection or cystitis.
Or badly smelling poops.
Did the vet also check his teeth when you were there? With you saying it could be coming from his mouth area?He was just recently at the vet for weight loss but no problems were found. The smell started after the vet and after the antibiotics. He is on fleece which is changed everyday and he lives in his own hutch. I may just bring him back to the vet.You wouldn’t be able to check the back teeth I’m afraid. Did the vet notice any smell coming from his mouth or anywhere else? What is he bedded on and how often do you change it? And does he live alone?
As said above you can’t check the back teeth yourself, the front ones can be overgrown (which can also be a sign that the back ones have problems) which you obviously can see and check. Pigs can develop ‘spurs’ on their teeth which can dig into their cheeks etc, causing infection and a smell sometimes, as well as other dental/mouth issues of course.Of course, Dale decided to be fresh and wouldn't let the vet look in his mouth but I have and the teeth aren't overgrown. Are there any other dental issues in GPs?
