I often forget that my girl Crunchie is elderly too .. She is 5.5 years old, and although 2 years younger than Fudge, she is still getting on a bit. She has her bladder issues, and a current 4 week long eye ulcer from a hay poke.. But she is a happy girl and doesnt complain. She puts up with me constantly tending to Fudge.. And in turn has become very loving towards her, as if she knows she needs that extra bit of TLC.
Crunchie was from my original pair, and came to me at 12 months old to live with Mikey, a neutered boar, for around 6 months before i took on Fudge too. She has always been top pig.. With the boar, with fudge, with mallow... Even recently fought until blood drawn when i tried to introduce Poppet to them after losing Mallow.. Yet, she lets fudge away with murder. fudge rumbles and twitches when shes happy.. Giving crunchie a little look and a nudge (shes silly and cheeky).. And Crunchie lets her. If she gives her reminder nudges over hay or food.. She couldnt be any gentler if she tried. Fudge will then nuzzle under her chin, until crunchie licks her as if to accept her apology.
They have the most beautiful bond.. As do they both with me. She is an exceptionally loving girl with that typical abby attitude. I think i will struggle to bond her with another pig when Fudge loses her fight.. But i have peace of mind just now that she is the best possible companion fudge could ask for- and vice versa.
Shes a pleasure.. And a real little treasure.
