Hello everyone, I just created this account because I am at a complete loss, and I could really use some help to figure out what is going on with my boy Zeus.

Before I start I also want to let everyone know that my mom and I are taking him to the vet in the morning, but if possible I want to get an idea about what might be going on with him to discuss tomorrow with the vet.

A few hours ago Zeus started walking around and around his cage while being seemingly unaware of his surroundings. He will just walk around the edges of the cage until he walks into something, then stand completely still for up to several minutes before walking again. He does not accept food, does not respond to touch or his cage mate, and shows no interest in anything in the cage. He will also stop and stare into the corners of the cage. This is NOT how his behavior is usually, and I can’t snap him out of it. I have no idea what can be causing this. He is pooping and peeing normally.

If anyone has encountered something similar I would really appreciate hearing about it, thank you.

Hi

It sounds like some kind of neurological issue. Unfortunately, there is comparatively little you or your vet although it is important that he is being seen, ideally within 24 hours. Neurological problems is one of the least researched area in guinea pigs. I assume that you do not have out-of-hours cover in Norway?

Here is some more information with practical care tips in the second part of the guide:

Here is our practical and helpful one-stop emergency, crisis and bridging care tips and information collection in case his condition deteriorates overnight.

Do you also have rabbits in your household?

Wishing you all the best.

Thank you for your comment and the links to other posts, I really appreciate it.
There aren’t any 24 hour vets where I live unfortunately. No there aren’t any rabbits in the household.

I hope that you are able to see a vet today.

Without rabbits, e.cuniculi won't be a concern that your vet may need to take into consideration since transmission can actually happen via the owner, as we have seen on here even though the two species are living separately. It is one of those questions that are best asked if only for ruling them out.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I’m sorry your boy is poorly. I hope the vet can find out what’s wrong. Sending healing vibes to Zeus.
