Hello everyone, my baby Pichu is 4.5 years old now, I've had the blessing of his company since July 2018. I lost my other piggy Hurley last year in September. Time has flown by so quickly since then. I feel like I haven't realised that since then, Pichu has aged another year. I feel like I am starting to see some signs of ageing.
He isn't as curious as he used to be once.
He doesn't run around as much.
But today I noticed something that made me worry. I was giving him some greens today and I dangled them in front of him. Normally he tries to stand and reach up for the food, he tried today too, but I felt like he could not. He tried twice, he did not seem like he was in any kind of immediate pain, but then it suddenly hit me that maybe it is because of the fact that he is older now. Could these be signs of arthritis?
Also, he adjusted with me quite well, I am home so I am able to be in front of him a lot. He's in the same room with me. He was okay since Hurley's passing. But now something feels off. Could he be depressed? He eats well. He moves less, and rests a lot more than he used to. Is that his age or is he sad? I am really confused what to take from it.

They say that the toes curl outward once they start growing older, but Pichu's toes seem fine. Healthy and not very thickened or anything.
Can someone guide me as to what I should be doing next? I had come across only one vet who was knew anything about guinea pigs here. He was a good doctor, but he isn't here anymore.
Are there any articles I can check out on signs of ageing in Guinea pigs and how best can I alleviate any of his discomfort?
Any specific supplements that could help him with his joints maybe?!

Thank you so much,
Maithili

Really it could be any one or all of the reasons you mention - discomfort, age, loneliness.
You would need to see a vet to check for any health issues. Should be have arthritis or any pain anywhere, he will need pain meds prescribed.

If you could add your location to your profile, then it would be easier for us to advise you.

I am from Goa, India. Thank you so much for your response.
