Hi there! After loads of great advice in my intro post, I have been keeping 4 eyes fixed on my little boys' behaviour toward each other. I know they will have a turbulent time of it in the coming year, and I would just like to share my observations of their behaviour so far, and wonder what you experienced piggy parents think of it. I hope this is okay!

Peanut: He was a few weeks older than the other two and came from a breeder in my area. He has been rumbling all around everywhere I put him, and is certainly trying it on with the wrong end of his cage mate Jasper! I have noticed that he only does it maybe once or twice in a day, and Jasper doesn't run away or wheek at him at all. When enough is enough, Jasper flicks up his head a little and Peanut sniffs his chin and rumbles off somewhere else. Bertie who came one day later from P@H will rumble when Peanut is out for laptime, but when he is out back Bertie will come up and sniff his and stop rumbling rigt away. Jasper has never rumbled at all, and seems to be bottom of the pile. All the boys spend their time sitting together and when one is out for laptime, the remaining two piggies call to him and the pig on my lap will chatter to them also. When they have had enough cuddling they will wheek loudly and the other pigs will reply. I am trying to get them used to my hands in the cage (without them scarpering!) and they come to my hand and take food from me. Jasper is the most nervous and will only come over once Peanut and Bertie are eating.

So far I have seen;
-chin sniffing
-rumbling
- the jiggies (only Peanut to Jasper though)
-licking
It seems at the moment like Peanut is the Big Pig and the others are his willing minions. Of the 3 pigs, Peanut is the calmest and loves being handled. The other two are slightly jumpier and have been since we bought them. Bertie ofter sits in the second bedroom, but will also ofter be sleeping next to Peanut. I have made sure that there are multiple bowls and accessories to minimise the need for competition as suggested. I'm pleased that seem like Peanut will be the Big Pig, as he is the gentlest. If it were to be Jasper in charge I think the situation could be quite different, even at this early stage!

I know it's too early to tell, but I so hope they can continue like this! They miss one another when a pig is taken out, and call to him all the time. I make sure the pigs have lots of time in the garden, though I'm not sure how long this can continue as it has started to get colder already, and soon I will be back at work (hopefully!). They have been popcorning (all three at the same time!) and it really is adorable.

These are all mild dominance behaviours. You won't be able to miss any hardcore stuff, as the intensity is on a completely different level. I hope that they continue to get on well.

Thank you, I hope so too. If not, I have arranged with my younger sister (she's 22) that perhaps one might come to live in her bedroom instead of mine, and she would be happy to find a lady-friend for him at a rescue (having read so much about the dating and help on offer) I feel lucky to be so supported on this site. My boys will have the best lives I can give them, together (hopefully) or apart if need be.
