I currently have a 2x4 coroplast cage for my bonded pair of boars. I want to add a 2nd level, but maybe just 2 grids on one side, because I'm worried about it being very hard to clean if I add a complete 2nd level... any thoughts?

I've read that adding a 2nd level can actually take away from their running space, but I think it would be fun b/c the whole top level could be a hay loft and they would love that.

I'm also concerned with the ramp b/c one of my pigs (Guinness) is very daring and I'm worried he will try to jump off or something. Anyone ever had a problem with this? Piggies falling off the ramp?

Any input is appreciated... Thanks! :(|)

I like having hay lofts but never had 2x2 grids over the cage. I think it would be hard to clean underneath, unless you make a door on the first level that you can open under the loft.

Ramps are considered to take away spaces if positioned in the way of their space for running laps. If you position it in a way that they can still run laps, that should be ok. Some people make ramps outside the cage.

If you are concerened about your pigs jumping off the ramp, you can make sides and cover the top part like this:

what a great piggy home that is.

I agree with the ramp thing, you need sides.

Also, i have a two storey cage that i have made into three storey. I access the top one via the top, the second and third through the front, its a bit dodgy sometimes, but basically ok to clean. It makes it more difficult when you have a nosey pig like my Oscar that is in your face all the time!

:(|) one of my girls has this curiosity issue - trying to clean their pens is a slow process as she insists on sitting on the back of my hand rolleyes
On a deep clean, I get an old hoover and get all the 'bits' missed from corners etc. and she goes mental, popcorning around the nozzle. I had a dog that would latch onto the head of a hoover but never a piggie :{

Would that not mean you have to cut holes into the grids? Is there anything you can do so you don't have to cut holes? (I have this weird thing where I can't ruin something that is complete(I may need it again someday) I can't even bend a grid in half to make a ramp)

Yes. In those two pics, you'd have to cut the grids.
You could put the ramp in the center like the 3rd pic I posted. That way, your pigs can still run around the base of the ramp.

adorable.........very clever too............. you have inspired me to make a piggy loft now cos my cage is only one level

Will I have enough room to do a ramp and loft my cage is 3x4 grids
