hi there
i am thinking of putting in a second floor in my guineas cage as a sleeping area
i have just purchased 2 snuggle cups from cosy cavies & would like them to be off the sawdust so they can be washed easier
i was wondering what to use what wood etc & how to keep the floor up and attached to the cage?
my cage is rather large & high but the guineas are in it as their permanent home indoors but are out in the run in the house for a couple of hours each day
any tips or pics ? have any of * done this?
many thanks.x

Hi there, I agonised about this for ages. If you check out the housing section there are loads of examples on there on how to expand a commercial cage.

Eventually, I utilised a grid shelf out of my greenhouse, bent it to shape, then used some plastic cable ties to fit and secure it to the side of the cage. The flooring is heavy duty cardboard i had kept, then newspaper then i use a fleece finally which makes it a comfty area for resting. You can make sure the fleece rides up the sides so they feel utterly safe and hidden away. At night I put a fleece over the top of the cage and they feel even more happier this way.

I used an existing tunnel which I also hook to the side of the cage, you can use small bulldog clips or more cable ties. Some can use all sorts for ramps and tunnels such as off cuts of squared guttering and use off cuts of carpets so they have something to grip to.
