Ive finally got a 2 tier cage after taking a while to choose one. I'm just woundering if anyone else has got a cage like this? and whats the best way to get your guinea pig to use the top part and get there confidence to go up the ramp?

I put a picture link up from flickr but doesnt seem to show on the message?

I have custom made fabric tunnels for my hutches. I attached them with sticky back velcro. You have to sew it to the tunnel to keep it from coming off but it will just stick to the ramp. Then the tunnel will stay in place but come off when you want to wash it. Rosie wouldn't use the ramp without it. The younger girls weren't so fussy.

Thats a good idea with the tunnel. How have you managed to put pictures on here? ill show you the cage

I have managed to see your photo on flikr and I suggest that you put a shelf at one end to rest the ramp on. This would reduce the steepness of the ramp.
Please feel free to look at the links in my earlier post up the page to get ideas from.

Dindypig I was thinking of putting a brick in the cage and resting the end of the ram on that to reduce the steepness. Do you think thats a good idea? a shelp would **** be better but I'm not very good with DIY. I was thinking of buying a pet fleece blanket and wrapping it round the ramp so there have more grip. Do you think that would be alright? also have you got any ideas what I could do to put some sides on the ramp to make it more safer for them?

Hi, the the ready made shelf (that came with the pen) in the picture below should be fairly easy to make. A piece of wood that just overhangs the sides (front and back?) with a slot to locate it to a wire upright. It doesn't need to overhang the long edge, just upto the wire wall so that ther is no gap. If you're no good at all at sawing wood then get some cardboard ant cut it to the size you want (like a template) and ask someone you know if they will cut some wood for you.

The picture below shows the sides that I have put on the ramp. they are hardboard cut to size and nailed on with panel pins. I used a piece of paper cut to size and drew round it onto the hardboard so that I could cut the hardboard to size without making a mistake. You could also use correx in the same way. Correx is the plastic stuff that they make forsale signs from. Carpet tile for the ramp or wrap some fleece round like you said.

The picture below shows the complete view. The little ramp came with the pen, it is just a mini version of the longer one. There is a ready made one here, it would probabley need cutting down though.http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=397&pf_id=8191 Or fix one of these to the shelf, they can be bent to shape. http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/accessories/bridges_stairs/36409

I think that a brick would be awkward to use when cleaning out etc.
The Piggies need a hidey too, you could look at one of the hideys on sale that would let you rest the ramp on top of it, maybe something like these.

There are also some ideas for shelving in this thread

Now get thinking, let your imagination flow but don't rush into it, try cutting out paper or cardboard to size to check that your ideas will work.
Have fun and I'm sure the Piggies will too.

Thanks for your help your cage looks great. Hopefully be able to get mine like that

Thanks ive followed the steps hopefully this will show the picture of the cage now.

Gosh, that ramp looks verry high! Coule you make the ramp longer, which would them make it less steep? Or put another mini floor in the bottom cage to split the ramp in half?

After alot of people letting me down saying there would do it. Ive found a joiner who said he would it. Getting done tomorrow so ill post pics up when done

I might add carpet yet to give them more grip or is there anything else anyone recommends? Really happy with what hes done

What a complete transformation. I can see a Piggy downstairs and one upstairs, I bet they're so glad of the extra space. Carpeting may let them feel a little more secure, Dindy was a lot happier when she was able to go up and down without srabbelling with her feet going ten to the dozen. So glad it's finally been done, how are the Piggies coping with it, they'll soon be up and down like yo-yos.

There still a bit edgy but I expected that with it being something new. I can imagine in a few days time there will be more use to it. I'll add the carpet and see what happens

There both can get up and down. I put the food at the top and as soon as there hear the fridge open or rattling there run to the top. Just bought a super pet gravity bin to but on the side of the cage upstairs to use instaed of the dishes. I found putting there dishes up stairs there were knocking them down the hole.
