Hi there. Our two little buggers had a mite problem a few weeks ago. We took them to the vet and they had an injection each and then another 10 days later. The thing is I still see them itching every now and then, especially our oldest one who seemed to have them worse than the other. Poor boy!

The vet said it was very rare for the mites to survive after two injections and that we shouldn't need to take them back for another. This makes me wonder if he has some other skin problem. Do you think we should get some of that anti fungal shampoo stuff from gorgeous guineas? Checking him over it looks like he has some dry patches of skin.

Any advice welcome, cheers!

Hiya!
Yes often guineas can have parasitic and fungal so it could be a good idea to contact Chrissie via her site and let her suggest the best product. One of mine has mites but I use Xeno 450 which is topical so injections not necessary, but if the infestation is bad, injections can be used. Leave 48 hours between any injection and using GG stuff.

Chrissie is great so email her and go from there :)

I would personally have a 3rd injection just to ensure they've all been killed off :)

welcome to the forums from me and the girls from oz. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: i would go with the third injection to play it safe, and perhaps also take a picture of your boys and send it with an email to christine at gorgeous guineas and see what she recomends O0 good luck, welcome again and hugs and healing vibes to your poor boys :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I personally wouldnt go for a third injection! The first kills off the mites that are active and the second 10 days later kills the newly hatched ones.
As I suggested, best email Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas. She is also a rodentologist and gives reliable and speedy advice.

i love my vet to bits, they are amazing. When my boys had mites, I got 3 injections 7 days apart from each other and i then had a spray that went on twice a day for 2 weeks and it all worked a treat. xxxxx
