Oooo how exciting. I have tons of fleece and not even got the guinea pigs yet!

Look forward to seeing how you get on with it. Going to give my boys a nice big lino lined hay eating area as well as a gorgeous fleecy 'garden'.

Well I'm sure they think they can poop more lol or is it coz I can see it more lol x

Well the girls stink :-( not really sure what I have done or if I need to do something else but they smell worse than when they had the wood shavings I'm not sure if to go back to that or if there is any tips on what I could do. Also what Tue best tips on what do i use to wash the fleece in to get rid if the smell. X

Sixty degrees with vinegar added. Poo sweeping a few times a day and lots of pads in high wee areas!

you need to wash any nw fleece 3 times in 60 degree wash and allow to dry between washes,so that urine can wick/pass through fleece, you need an absorbing layer under the fleece to soak up urine and top layer stays dry.you can use a capful of vinager in the washing machine along with a washing powder/tablet/liquid.must not use fabric conditioner as this stops urine passing through the fleece.an absorbing layer can be puppy pads, towels, newspaper.your liner will have a layer which absorbs the urine,so will not need another layer.you can use a cat litter try to put some bedding and hay in,which will stop hay sticking to fleece, and piggies will hope fully overtime do most of there wees and poos in this .good luck.love to see pics if you get a chance.:):luv:

I have towels under the fleece. Is it white vinager to wash in x

@Beckybex It may just be that you're now not smelling wood shavings so your nose is more sensitive to piggy smells at the mo?

I agree with @flowerfairy sbout piddle pads! Though with a new cage set up it may take a little time for your pigs to choose where they'd mostly like to pee - my two generally do most of their weeing and about 80% of their poops in or just outside the hay tray, so I have piddle pads next to the tray :)

I can't seem to find piddle pads. Most of the websites I use for fleece are down...but I NEED to put an order in with Ziggy for more cosies, and another lap blanket...

I'm going to put a puppy pad under the hay tray and remove it after several days so the fleece won't get as damp in that area

You need to wash in a non-bio washing powder or liquid to remove the stains etc. The white vinegar just helps to eliminate some of the smell. You can put the vinegar in the softener compartment of the machine.

To wick the fleece so that the urine passes through you do need to wash with detergent 2/3 times on a hot wash cycle 60 degrees or preferably 90 degrees. Once it is dry pop a towel under the fleece and pour a little water on it, it the water soaks through your fleece is ready to use, if not wash it again. One of the fleeces I had recently took like 6 washes to wick, but I worked out it was due to a softener build up in the washing machine, so I put the machine on a clean cycle first (might be useful if you are having problems).

I have washed there fleece in vinager it's amazing thank you no smell it's ace lol. And also I thought I would give the poo tray a try really wasn't expecting much. Anyway goes to check.in them before I come up to bed and there is poo in there (still some around it) but it isn't all over the cage like before. Fingers crossed it this is what happens in 1 night what will they be like Next Week lol. Not sure if it's a one off but will most deffintly keep it up and see what happens x

Sounds like you're making good progress with both the washing and toilet training :)
