New Born Pup
Hi all, can my 1 year old girl live together with a 4 weeks baby girl? I've never had a baby piggy before so not sure.. Appreciate all the answers, thanks!
Hi, thanks for your reply. So food wise there is no difference?Yes, piggies of any age can live together (provided they are character compatible).
Ensure you double check the sex of any new piggies yourself so you can be certain you are only getting a sow, and ensure carry out any bonding properly on neutral territory.
Piggies under four months of age are desperate for companionship so are often readily accepted. They must never be quarantined though and need to be bonded straight away due to their desperate need for companionship.
Hi, this one is coming from the same breeder i got my one year piggy girl. I would love to adopt but unfortunately the QLD Guinea Pig Refuge is just VERY far from us, and i wish they had a website where i can see piggies available for adoption. I just looked at Gold Coast Guinea Pig Rescue and they only have two available for adoption (or at least that’s what’s available on their website.)Hi and welcome
Yes, they can live together but the little one a bit younger than I would recommend to go a home. What kind of place is the little one coming from?
If you can, please consider adopting a healthy, guaranteed not pregnant, properly sexed and fully quarantined/medically treated guinea pig of any age from either QLD Guinea Pig Refuge in North Brisbane or from Gold Coast Guinea Pig Rescue to the South of Brisbane - you are lucky that Brisbane is the guinea pig rescue capital of Australia so you have several of the best on your doorstep.
This means that you can neatly avoid all the usual pitfalls that come with unquarantined guinea pigs and can allow your girl a say in who she wants to live with.
You would also help to ease the dire and still fast flood of no longer wanted guinea pigs that is swamping Western countries around the globe.

I got her relatively new (3 months ago) but i just lost my older girl. I posted it on another thread on how she died if you wanna see it.As short as possible is ideal. Did she lose her previous companion or has she been alone from a young age?
Here’s a pic of the new baby! She’s just 4 weeks oldthis post should give you some info. i was reading it and it says your 4 week old girl is going into its social learning period. so if the older girl is accepting of her it might be a good time for the younger piggy. to have an older mentor to show her the ropes. i would think the age gap and her being in the learning period would make for an easier dominance hierarchy at first but that could have problems in their teenage months.
theirs also sections on bonding and bereaved guinea pigs. (again sorry for your loss) that would be good clues to how to help give the best chance of bonding them and making sure their bonding session is going well ect.
