We have had our 1yr old boars for 6 weeks they are so friendly they have adapted well eating out of our hand squeaking popcorning the lot there is a lot of rumble strutting over everything and head humping on and off . i have 2 litter box ,2 bowls ,2 water bottles 2 tunnels . We get them out in playpen everynight sometimes no issues other times chasing very random and fast when we have them on us one gets more scared and ends up head nudging other and trying to get under the other and irritates him the whole time . Last night we sectioned area off for them to have floor space it started well then it ended fast scrabbling chasing and vigourous humping very extreme . We are new owners and are worried sick all of the time we have sectioned off the cage as the humping went on for hours very very vigourous any advice at all is welcome . My partner wants to attempt to introduce tonight but i am petrified can anyone help? thank you x

Humping is normal behaviour and doesn’t require them to be separated.
Please note that now you have separated them, you have to reintroduce them on neutral territory. The reintroduction will now cause another round of dominance as they reestablish following their separation. This is why separating unnecessarily isn’t recommended - you can further destabilise their relationship.

The additional dominance may well have been caused by them going out for floor time - a new environment which doesn’t smell of them will cause a round of dominance

We didnt take the decision lightly it was very vigourous and distressing the were rolling around in a ball and my 10 year old son was distraught i have done nothing but look into what to do for best and it seemed to be for best for everyone . How would i reintroduce properly

Rolling around as in fighting?
If so, then you cannot reintroduce them at all unfortunately. That kind of rolling around fighting is sadly bond breaking, it means they don’t like each other and won’t be able to go back together.

If they were not fighting and it was dominance humping:
You put them somewhere neutral, and see whether they go back together. This time in the neutral pen allows them to make their decision about each other.
It’ll either be fine and they will accept each other back (in which case you leave them in neutral space for a couple of hours and then move them back to the cleaned out cage); or they will not accept each other, fighting will occur and their separation sadly must then be made permanent.

So they were humping each other rather than just the dominant humping the submissive?
Was it very loud teeth chattering?

It’s unfortunately and possibly starting to sound like it may be a dysfunctional bond and that their reintroduction may not be successful and could lead to permanent separation.

I’d suggest you leave them apart for a few more days and then try neutral territory reintroduction and see whether they accept each other back.
If they don’t then the reintroduction will fail pretty quickly.

The submissive has been head humping v mildly for week or so the dominant who we think is anyway has dealt quite well until we put on floor last night then he completly flipped and started humping very vigourous and it was very distressing yes chattering quite loud so u think we shud leave them a little bit longer

Rumbling is normal dominance behaviour, as is chasing, chattering and humping.
What you need to do is using the guides, decide if it has now gone too far and their bond is failing or whether it is still within normal realms.

Yes I’d leave them apart for a few days before attempting reintroduction. It may just be a hormone spike so those few day’s apart may allow it to settle.

How big is their cage?
Do all hides have two exits?

We don’t recommend food bowls are used - veg and pellets should be scattered around the cage and/or in hay piles as it encourages foraging, keeps them occupied and stops any food hogging

There cage is 2x4 cc they are always at either end to be fair they like to sleep on the litter tray and we have tried hide houses and the dominant takes over and the submissive one just lays next to it doesnt get a look in

A 2x4 can be a bit on the small side for teen boars (a 2x5 is recommended) but a dysfunctional bond won’t survive no matter what size space they have.

You would need at least two, but ideally three or four houses in the cage for two boars, so the dominant couldn’t hog them all at once.
If you had that many and he was guarding every single one of them, then I’m afraid that may also add more weight to there being an issue in their bond

Do u reccomend any specific hideys as i say I'm new to this and want to do everything it takes x

Anything with two doors is fine if they are to remain together.
If they have to be separated then you can get single exit hides
I’d avoid plastic thpugh
