I was wondering if someone could help me identify if my guinea pig has an infection that causes crust around the eyes. It sort of looks like he may have scratched himself and it slightly seems like it’s gotten better but I just want to know what the experts think first. Thank you so much in advance for helping me out BA5187E9-F9A9-49DF-A5A3-6E5E00E66B2E.webp46A68D9D-115F-45FC-B541-10D722938A5B.webp5E04514F-D57F-4620-B49F-D152988DD6E3.webpDFC7DD98-FB27-492D-BC41-C9187F374861.webp

It’s difficult to tell from the photos but I would guess that’s not from a scratch. There’s no harm getting him checked out.

Please have your piggy vet checked, especially if the area is getting larger quickly in the coming days.

It is impossible to say right now at this stage and without a hands-on examination what exactly is going on; but one of the possibilities could be ringworm, a highly contagious fungal skin infection especially common in new guinea pigs. The period between infection and outbreak is 10-14 days.
