I saw a bit of dry skin on my guinea pigs ears so I will probably need to clean that soon. But beyond that how often should they be cleaned?

One of my guinea pigs has been scratching her ear more than usual and shaking her head a lot. I checked her ear and there is a white looking booger thing at the very bottom in there and I am not sure if this is an ear infection or and emergency? Is there any way I can make this better for her...

It has somehow been a debate on whether to clean piggies's ears or not? I've found some tutorials on youtube and the "breeders" here i often read that they clean piggy ears to avoid ear infections? How true is this and do you have an experience?
