Not crazy at all! I have tried the massage but as with every animal in my life it is never quite so simple. She is super skinny, has struggled to be over 800g her whole life and with older age has the feeling of a very boney girl, so massage tends to irritate her skin due to the bones. I tend to...
What a wonderful tribute to a much loved piggy who you have given the happiest of lives after a bad start and who was able to live that happy life right to the very end until the very last few hours.
It is never easy to adjust when the source of so much reflected joy and love is suddenly gone...
Could you look into a heat lamp like for reptiles ? I know they are available with a stand but I’m not sure how you’d regulate the heat or how expensive they might be
Thank you so much for the detailed reply! It’s cleared up a lot of confusion. I was thinking you were meant to use small hutches at night then runs during the day for extra space all year round.
Ok so my idea now is to perhaps get a child’s Wendy house, insulate it (celotex covered with thin...
Coffee finally managed to find the warmed up pad today! I had to put the oil radiator in their room today, which worked but I was wondering if they can have a heat lamp? Does anyone have an idea on one that might work?
Since their rescues, I haven't quite got their ideal housing down yet. They currently have two fleece hides, but looking at getting more, and mixed paper & hay bedding in different sections. They are kept right next to a radiator & when thats off I have a heat lamp on the one side of the cage...
I am in Germany, so I am not sure how much I would be able to help unfortunately because it will probably be a German brand. I was already thinking about making a post asking if anyone could recommend me one because I have no idea where to start either, but I assumed it wouldn't help me much...
After listening to the wonderful webinar by John Chitty, I would like to invest in some sort of UV light for my indoor pigs to use when I feel like they may have not gotten enough sunlight. I was just looking online and I have little idea where to start. I know many people have great success...
Hi all
Does any know if I can use a small heat lamp in my hutch? Anyone got any recommendations?
I've just read it might feel like - 9 next week! Last year when we had the beast from the east, I brought them in the house for a few days, but I can't do that this year because my 15 month old...
So I was wondering weather I could put a heat lamp in the Pig house? (a converted playhouse)
They currently have a normal light bulb in there which I use when feeding them and cleaning them out.
I am thinking about changing this to a heat lamp instead, I'd only have it on for a few hours from...
Me too, I thought should I do this, but they were basicly like being in the wild without predators. Yea I think heatlamps 👍
The pigs were not skittish either, they must be used to seeing ugly faces 24/7
I must admit that I usually don't like things like this but the piggies seem to be in a big enclosure with plenty of hay, food and hides and are those heatlamps I see above?
Hi all! I have a new (skinny) pig and I’m slightly worried about her. I’m not sure if I’m just being paranoid new owner? I think she sits in a weird position and I’m worried it’s from discomfort. You can kind of see a dip behind her rib cage (pics at end).
She’s about 3 months old. She seems...
Maybe it’s just that I don’t have a heat lamp, I’m always scared to use a heat source incase something catches fire 😩 and I don’t have electricity that goes up to the shed
Mine stays warm in the winter, there bottles don't freeze 😐
They have a 4x4ft playhouse, insulated with foil bubble wrap stuff and they have a light that gives off heat (just a standard light bulb not a heat lamp) It stays nice and warm through the winter :)
My piggies live in a fully insulated playhouse all year round and they're absolutely fine :D
You could get a heat lamp to go in the shed if you're worried :)
Hi and welcome
It is great that you are doing your research beforehand and that you are tackling your pets as a family.
Guinea pigs are crepuscular; i.e. they are most active in the mornings and early evenings when they are wired to march to their grass feeding grounds in single files along...
Unsure on heatlamps and there usage...
Lots of threads to read through here which i am sure will be helpful in answering you query Search results for query: heatlamps
I'm really lucky because my herd of 7 have been getting on amazingly recently. Perhaps a little bit too well with the new arrivals, the smallest piggy Tiger (sow) has been doing quite a bit of mounting and at times has appeared if something was pulsating moving down there and purring. The other...
...on the grass, lots of tunnels and hideaways and when inside have big interesting cages in a very old caravan out back, warmed by various heatlamps and heaters.
And they're all named after Jane Austen or the Brontes characters and lives-there's Colonel Brandon and Elinor and Lydia and Charlotte...
